Giveaway rules and disclosure

Say it before the draw, not after.

A rules script you can reuse

Read this out at the start and pin it as a comment:

"Comment MINE to join. One entry per person — extra comments won't add chances. Entries close at 9:00 PM. I'll paste all comments into a random picker and post a screenshot with the seed and time. Winner has 48 hours to message me, otherwise I redraw the same way."

What to disclose

  • Eligibility. Anyone? Members of the group only? Past winners excluded? Shipping limited to certain areas? Say it upfront.
  • The method. Name the tool and say the draw is random. Vagueness invites suspicion.
  • The cut-off time. A stated deadline stops the "pero nag-comment ako kanina" arguments.
  • How you'll announce. Same post, tagged comment, or next live.
  • Claiming and redraw. How long the winner has, and what happens if they go silent.
  • Who's running it. This is your promotion, not Facebook's or Instagram's. Both platforms ask you to say so.

Avoiding accusations of favoritism

Most accusations come from a gap in the story — viewers saw comments go in, then a name come out, with nothing in between. Close that gap:

  • Draw on camera whenever you can.
  • Post the entry count. If people can see 214 entries, one winner feels normal.
  • Post the seed and timestamp so the pick is tied to a moment.
  • Never edit the list after the cut-off, even to "help" someone who was late.
  • If a relative or staff member wins, say so and redraw if you've made that your policy. Handling it out loud costs you one prize; hiding it costs you buyers.

Keep a small record

Save the pasted list and the result image for each giveaway in a folder on your phone. If someone questions a draw weeks later, you can produce the same entries and the same seed instead of relying on memory.

Legal basics

Keep entry free. If your promotion requires payment to join, it stops being a simple giveaway and may fall under local raffle and permit rules — check before running it. Never promise a prize you don't have in hand, and ship what you announced.
